This school was established and inaugurated in January, 2005 under the Indira Gandhi Educational Trust, which aims at a comprehensive improvement of educational standards of people of this area. The foundation of this school building was laid by Padmashree Dr. K.J.Yesudas, the legendary maestro - ‘Gaana Gandharva’ of Kerala. Housed in a prestigious building located on a hillock at Mambaram, it has a congenial, calm and serene atmosphere for the process of imparting and acquiring knowledge in a classroom. Our school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The school, which is a co- educational institution, prepares the students for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSCE X) and All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE XII). The school functions in four main sections, i.e., KG, Primary (I- V), Secondary (VI-X) and Senior Secondary (XI and XII). A wonderful Playschool is also being operated by the management for the overall growth of the very small kids in our surroundings.
Besides English, which is the medium of instruction, Hindi and Malayalam are also taught along with all other subjects. Facilities for computer education has been provided to all classes with internet connection. Achieving high educational excellence, great moral standard and perfect discipline are the prime mottos of our school. The school is equipped with an excellent and spacious lab for various science subjects and brilliant library with a reading room, where a vast number of books and periodicals are readily available for the students.
Even though we are endowed with a good playground, we aim at improving it to an international standard. We have already opened a well-designed Handball and Basketball Court inside the school campus. A well-planned Football and Cricket Stadium and an Indoor Stadium for Shuttle Badminton are getting ready shortly. A well-secured and eco-friendly Swimming Pool is almost finished its construction and is waiting for its opening very soon.
For promoting Communicative English among the students and for making an English Friendly Campus, some special faculties from Goa are appointed by the management this year.
Now that we have a beautiful and serene Students’ Park on the very bank of the Anjarakandy River, which would invigorate the students by cooling down their mind and body after visiting the magnificent landscape and the ice cream parlour which are ready to welcome you over there. A Boat Club is also about to start very shortly in our students’ park, which will embrace the visitors with a mindful of sightseeing in this God’s own country.
It is a matter of pride to share something about Indira Gandhi Public School in the form of a message . My heart fills with immense pleasure as I perceive the progress being made at IGPS now. The seeds of an idea sown in 2004 has quickly come to fruition, and the school is growing into a strong sapling at present. It is the endeavour of the Indira Gandhi Educational Trust to make this divine abode of masterminds, a smooth journey full of joy and discovery.Indira Gandhi Public School was started in 2005 with 350 students and today it has more than 3500 students not in the huge brick and mortar edifice that you see, but in the strength of character of our students. Of course, we believe in quality education for one and all, without compromising their divine talents and exuberant personalities.
The aim of our school is to promote a system of integral education in a congenial child-friendly environment that emphasizes the unity of all knowledge, synthesizes humanity and science and recognizes the fact that each child is unique. We believe that education should enable the students to soar high - morally, socially and spiritually. We believe that our students need to learn that the secret of success and contentment lies in discovering one's own strengths as well as limitations. At IGPS, priority is also given to the teaching of critical thinking skills such as reasoning and problem solving, to help our students develop the ability to reach sound conclusions based on observation and information.
